Scott J. Svonkin
The Honorable Scott J. Svonkin is a school board member, businessman and long-time community activist. Scott and his wife, Jennifer, raise their two children in San Gabriel, California where they work to improve the lives of families by promoting good public schools, safe neighborhoods and a prosperous community.
Scott pursues his goals through political and grass-roots activism. In 2007 Scott was elected to the San Gabriel Unified School Board and is President of Svonkin Consulting; a marketing, communications and public affairs firm. Scott also serves as the Vice Chairman of the California Credit Union board, a $1.25 billion not-for-profit cooperative serving the education community.
Scott Svonkin serves as the Chairman of the Los Angeles County Insurance Commission and former President for the California Respiratory Board. He is the Vice President of the San Gabriel Coordinating Council and a board member for the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce.
Previously Scott spent six and a half years with Prudential Insurance where he received the Community Champions Rising Star Award, as well as their Hero Award for creating a voter registration and grassroots-lobbying program. Scott also worked as Chief of Staff to California Assembly Member Paul Koretz (D-West Hollywood), focusing on issues relating to crime, limiting tobacco advertising directed at children and public education. Scott also formerly worked for Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley and taught at Los Angeles Valley College, where he also served on their foundation board.
A native of Los Angeles County, Scott attended public schools his entire life. He received his B.A. from Cal State University, Northridge.
